Tecno expands to new markets - Plans to open a manufacturing plant in lagos Nigeria

Chinese phone company, Tecno, whose business has entered its 10th year the Middle East and African markets, has informed of plans to set up a manufacturing plant in Nigeria.

For effect, the firm said it has secured a large expanse of land in one of the choicest areas of Lagos.

Tecno Deputy Marketing Manager, Nigeria, Attai Oguche, who disclosed this in Lagos, at the launch of the firm’s new mobile devices—Phantom 6 and Phantom 6 Plus, said the firm is committed to the Nigerian market, hence the need to site a manufacturing plant in the country.

Oguche said while Tecno has its first African manufacturing plant in Ethiopia, the firm has established presence in 48 territories, “Nigeria, Kenya and Tanzania respectively remain the biggest market on the continent for the phone company.”

The firm said it has revolutionised mobile telephony in well over 30 African countries; giving mobile users global quality devices at affordable rates. The strategy of adopting innovation works and for Tecno, the turning point was the introduction of dual SIM technology into its range of feature phones and smartphones well before top mobile brands doing business in same markets could respond to a glaring consumer need.

Giving more insight into the newly launched device, which was globally unveiled in Dubai, UAE, Tecno Digital Marketing Executive, Jesse Oguntimehin, said the firm currently controls 25.3 per cent market share in Nigeria.

The Official launch of Phantom 6 on September 25 at Burj Khalifa towers; Dubai is brand’s first step in long-term growth plan for the Middle-east and South American markets

Oguntimehin said Tecno has a good reason to celebrate its first decade of existence; enjoying particularly rising shipment to Africa and south-east Asian markets

“Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement and success have no meaning”Benjamin Franklin once said. True. The fact is, no matter how good we are at our jobs, there is always room for improvement and those who realize this salient truth, always endeavor to go the extra mile just to better their last performance.

TECNO heads north with an international launch for its latest flagship duo

With the release of the new TECNO Phantom 6 and Phantom 6 Plus smartphones, TECNO has shown that it has not taken its foot off the pedal in bringing very competitive smartphones to mobile consumers across emerging markets. Just yesterday, TECNO Mobile’s flagship –Phantom 6 and Phantom 6 Plus, were launched at the magnificent Armani Hotel located in Burj Khalifa, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The occasion, which was the brand’sfirst international launch attracted over 80 local and international media houses including Emirates News, Dubai One TV, The National, Al Khaleej, Gulf News, Deutsche Presse-Agentur DPA (German News Agency) and Xinhua News Agency to cover and broadcast the event live. Notable guests at the event were Kimura Makoto, General Manager of SONY; Jeremy Doutte, CEO of Jumia; Arthur Wang, Senior Director Corporate Sales International of MediaTek; Martin Kariithi, Manager Android Partnerships for Google (West Africa) and popular African TV Personalities Mercy Aigbe and VJ Adams.

The Burj Khalifa: the world’s tallest building through the eyes of the TECNO Phantom 6

Currently, TECNO Phantom 6 and Phantom 6 Plus fondly dubbed beauty and the beast by reviewers are the most disruptive smartphones in the TECNO Phantom series till date.

Experience the power of 13MP+5MP dual back cameras

The Phantom 6 is a pure beauty. Its sleek and appealing frame holds a stunning SONY 13MP plus 5MP dual rear cameras. The 13MP camera auto-focuses on images to make them appear clearer and crispier just like lenses on a professional DSLR camera while the 5MP fixed-focus camerais designed to focus on almost every object laying within the camera’s line of sight. Photos taken with the Phantom 6 are not just clear, colorful and beautiful but they also give users the option of changing the focus on each object in the picture at any time. Hosting a 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM, thePhantom 6 is fast and can house about 5,120 songs or 20 HD movies. This brilliant smartphone takes advantage of advanced FHD AMOLED screen to deliver vivid pictures and great video experience with a 180-degree viewing angle. Reviewer’s comments on pitting the latest TECNO Phantom 6 against Chinese favorite, Huawei P9 smartphone suggests that new Phantom 6 tromps the latter in hardware and camera optimization. Phantom 6’s 6.15mm ultra-thin compact chassis faults Huawei P9’s 6.9mm and iPhone’s 77.3mm dimension respectively. TECNO Phantom 6 is the slimmest smartphone with dual rear cameras in the market.

When speed, high performance and all-round security matters, choose Phantom 6 Plus

Tagged “the beast” by folks wowed by its intimidating specifications, new TECNO Phantom 6 Plus is built to impress; taking performance speed and user privacy/security to new levels. The device comes with animpressive MediaTek Helio X20 deca-core processor and a 4GB RAM which helps it support 32 apps running simultaneously without crashing. Compared to last generation smartphones, the Phantom 6 Plus performs 70% better and uses up 30% less battery juice. Its state-of the-art tri-fold security combines the most responsive fingerprint and eye-scanner technologies with a free Trustlook anti-virusworth 9.99USD.

A spectacular 21MP rear camera brings to bear TECNO Phantom 6 plus’ love for creative imaging. Stomaching an expanded 64GB internal memory, the Phantom 6 plus can house 25 HD movies or 12,000 songs. It also flaunts the revolutionary USB type C port that allows for super fast charging and data transfer. The USB type C port is a next generation design currently being used on a few devices like the Apple iPhone and Mac. For only 10 minutes on charge, phantom users can enjoy 124 minutes of talk time and up to 30 minutes of 4G connection.

Never say it, show it

The TECNO Phantom 6 and Phantom 6 Plus are no doubt one of the most competitive devices to enter the market in the last quarter of 2016. By raising the bar on technological advancements, securing strategic partners and maintaining a pocket friendly price, TECNO is making a much louder, bolder statement: “Never say what you’re made of, show it.

The Official launch of Phantom 6 on September 25 at Burj Khalifa towers; Dubai is brand’s first step in long-term growth plan for the Middle-east and South American markets

TECNO, LAGOS – Africa’s leading mobile manufacturer of high-end smartphones and feature phones – TECNO, has announced its expansion into the Middle East. Celebrating its tenth anniversary year, the move into the region comes after successfully establishing itself as one of the biggest phone brands in Africa.

Over the past decade, the mobile phone penetration rate in Africa has risen to 80% from 6%, with TECNO Mobile products shipped to over 30 African countries. Currently, the Chinese mobile multinational enjoys its largest market share of 41.1% and 31.1% in Tanzania and Nigeria respectively. Also, recent market survey places TECNO Mobile as Africa’s No 1 smartphone brand, controlling an average 25.3% market share of the entire African market – the highest for any mobile phone manufacturer.

“We believe that emerging markets are where the future growth is for smartphones,” said Vane Ni, Global Marketing lead, TECNO Mobile.

“,” Vane added. We are excited to be making our Middle Eastern debut with the launch of our latest Phantom flagships, the TECNO Phantom 6 and 6 plus. The Middle East will be an important market for us as part of our growth strategy. We believe it is the perfect landscape to be taking our next step

IDC 2015 report on Africa puts sales of smartphones on the increase, by 108% which surprisingly represents only one third of the total mobile phone sales volume in the African market. While the worldwide smartphone market growth is showing a noticeable slowdown, emerging markets are just taking off.

International Data Corporation (IDC)* report also showed decline in mobile phone shipments to the Middle East in 2016 which it attributed to a lack of smartphone innovation and a variety of socioeconomic factors. Phones priced less than $300 now make up 52% of the GCC's smartphone market, with consumers looking for an attractive value proposition, IDC stated.

“In Africa, TECNO is spearheading certain technological advancements in the mobile space and this is based on our understanding of emerging markets dynamics. With the launch of the new Phantom series, we hope to use our market insights to penetrate the Middle East region,” said Tomo Liu, Deputy Marketing Director at TECNO Mobile, while speaking about the Phantom 6 launch to hold in Dubai.

“Our products are always at the forefront of innovation as we adopt the latest software technologies and best material design techniques in the world to deliver smartphone products never seen before in markets. For instance, it takes five hundred engineers working from design phase to final product assembly to deliver any TECNO Phantom flagship seen in the market,” says Attai Oguche, TECNO marketing and PR lead, Nigeria.

TECNO Mobile is the first phone brand to design an entertainment ecosystem tailored to suit the needs and habits of young mobile consumers in emerging markets. TECNO launched its BOOM series smartphones with highly improved audio quality for consumers that love music and released its CAMON and Phantom series for consumers who love pictures and high-end smartphones respectively.

“As part of TECNO’s growth strategy into new markets, we have plans under way to entering Southeast Asian and South American markets in the near future,” said Vane Ni.

Tecno DroiPad Tablet PC Set to Change the Status Quo With REMIX OS 2.0

In a continuous quest to rule the African mobile market sphere, TECNO is yet again set to thrill mobile users with the release of the Droipad 10 Pro II. The tablet fuses the computing ability of a PC with the freedom of the Android ecosystem to give end users an All-in-One PC and mobile experience.

Seamless multi-tasking with Remix OS 2.0

DroiPad Tablet PC Set to Change the Status Quo With REMIX OS 2.0

The TECNO DroiPad 10 Pro II packs
interesting specifications and innovative upgrades, one of them being the latest Remix OS 2.0, an Android based desktop OS designed by Jide Technology, a company started by 3 ex-Google engineers to unlock the huge potentials of Android in order to accelerate a new age of computing. This combines the productivity features found in the regular PC, Windows for instance, with the mobility and ecosystem of the Android OS to enable users effortlessly enjoy features which would ordinarily be found in personal computers – a ‘start button’ called the app drawer, task-bar, easy multitasking between multiple resizable tabs or “windows”, sidebar notification, drag and drop files, and the conventional keyboard short cuts many PC users have become familiar with. This is basically and brilliantly making PCs more mobile.

More leaked images and detailed specs of Tecno droipad 10 pro II

The new Droipad 10 pro II which is slated to launch later this month of September, will be the first device to debut the Upgraded version of the Remix OS in Africa.
The 2-in-1 body device is built for speed with a 1.3GHz quad-core processor and flaunts a vibrant 10.1’’ IPS touchscreen with full lamination that delivers stunning colour consistency, plus an inbuilt 32GB storage capacity to hold your multimedia content and a 2GB RAM that enables faster responses when multitasking.

More than enough juice power

DroiPad Tablet PC Set to Change the Status Quo With REMIX OS 2.0

Aside the Remix OS upgrade, the next amazing specs is the monster battery. The DroiPad 10 Pro II comes with a powerful 7000mAh battery capacity that can enable users enjoy productivity and video playback of up-to 11 hours in a single charge.

The freedom of a 2-in-1 Tablet PC
Another feature that makes the DroiPad 10 Pro II attractive is its beautiful detachable keyboard. This wirelessly connected accessory is essentially what converts the DroiPad 10 Pro II into a mini PC. For lovers of physical keyboards, this is the real deal, as typing is pretty easy without hassles. The shortcuts found in our regular PCs work perfectly on this device, thanks to this detachable keyboard.
What’s more, the device is Dual SIM, 4G-LTE network compatible and can equally make the conventional voice calls, something quite hard to find in high end tablets that normally offer data only devices via Wi-Fi or a data enabled SIM slot without being able to make voice calls.

Tecno DroiPad Tablet PC Set to Change the Status Quo With REMIX OS 2.0

The specs of the DroiPad 10 Pro II may not be out of the world for heavy PC users, but the freedom and mobility options this “All-in-1 Android Tablet-PC” offers are features that make it a first choice for every class of mobile PC lovers, more so for upwardly mobile people. And if the price is right, a department TECNO sure knows how to effectively deal with, the DroiPad 10 Pro II is sure to hold sway within the Tablet and 2-in-1 PC market.

Tecno phantom 6/6 plus lunch date leaked

One of Africa’s leading mobile makers, TECNO has been warming up to the lunch of its September flagship on 25th of September in Dubai, the Phantom 6 and phantom6 plus. However, moving away from a known tradition of an African launch for its high-end Phantom series, TECNO opted for an overseas grand unveiling of what analysts have dubbed a “turning point” flagship.

One of Africa’s leading mobile makers, TECNO has been warming up to the lunch of its September flagship, the Phantom 6/6 plus. However, moving away from a known tradition of an African launch for its high-end Phantom series, TECNO opted for an overseas grand unveiling of what analysts have dubbed a “turning point” flagship. See phantom 6/6 plus lunch date here

Tecno phanthom 6 may feature a curved screen/edge display

TECNO has been aiming its marketing paraphernalia at the Middle-east and Western markets in an effort to grow the brand’s consumer base in these regions. From experience, smartphone brands that try to reach consumers in the Middle-east and Western markets tend to put their flagship products up and I think TECNO is putting up the Phantom 6.

A closer look at the TECNO Phantom 6 reveals a smartphone with really good software and hardware upgrades – MediaTek Helio X20 Deca-core processor, Trifold security system (including fingerprint, eye scan technologies), full metal body and scale-tipping SONYTM rear camera are some of the upgrades we can affirmatively say either TECNO Phantom 6 or its variant Phantom 6+ will spot.

The phantom 6+ has five layered metal reinforcement. Our phones many a time let us down when it comes to buttressing our style. After using them for some time, they begin to look old, break at the edges and have unavoidable scratches everywhere around the body.

The design is a product of five different layers of reinforced metal to enhance durability. Each of the different layers adds unique elements to the sturdy appearance of the device while still maintaining the slim look.

The multinational brand TECNO has picked Dubai over London since it has made market gains into the Middle-eastern region already. TECNO’s 2015 camera flagship, the CAMON C8 was a huge success in markets like Egypt, Algeria and the UAE and consumers in these markets are quite familiar with the TECNO brand name

The best smartphone buying guide

Hi, i decided to right this article on best smartphone buying guide because, as phones have added more features, they've become an indispensable companion, helping you stay on top of email and social updates, take and share photos and videos, play music and games, and do a whole lot more— in fact, buying the right smartphone can actually improve your business and personal life, it can sometimes double as your wallet.. So we probably don't have to tell you that choosing the right phone is a big deal.

The best smartphone buying guide

Not considering the recent addition of the Fingerprint and Iris Scanner technologies, This Smartphone-buying guide covers more important features you need to check before you buy a Smartphone, ranging from the Operating system the Ram and the Internal storage space to the Camera and the Battery life. Use this advice to make sure you get the very best handset for your needs and budget.

We've now arrived at a point in Smartphone evolution where the camera matters more than the processor, especially since most people use their phones as their primary shooters. More and more Smartphone’s boast cameras with at least 12 megapixels, but don't go by numbers alone. Instead, pay attention to image quality, aperture, pixel size, speed and features.

The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge currently offer the best cameras on any phone. Their dual-pixel cameras offer lightning-quick autofocus and take great pictures in low light, thanks to the wide f/1.7 aperture (lower numbers are better). By contrast, the 12-megapixel insight cameras on the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus have an aperture of f/2.2.

Random Access Memory, it is a common term but many do not really understand its concept. Even for old model type of phones such as those that ran on the Symbian OS, RAM is a thing of essential value as it has its crucial use in a phone mostly Androids for which it is indispensable for the now and can’t be overlooked.
I’m not about to hit you with geeky terms that will only confuse your understanding about RAM already, but let’s put it this way: LOW RAM, SLOW MOVEMENTS.
When that Android you intend to buy comes with attractive features but has has low ram, those features are as useless as 10kb of internet surfing data is to instagram.
The best smartphone buying guide

RAM is temporary memory to which every app on your phone has access, they don’t get to reside there or save their data there permanently but they can come have a stay there from time to time. Let’s make out some instance. If you’re editing a picture on your phone or you are making a video or an audio record, you are creating some data which is being handled by an app, however the app needs a something to lean on to run effectively and that’s where our dear RAM comes in, it will take up the responsibility of that for the app until the app is through with the process and saves the data generated on the phone’ ROM or Micro Storage Disk and closes.
So the more the data being handled by the app the more the RAM needed, Get it? So RAM which helps the phone’s movement has to come in a considerably okay quantity else movement gets hiccups easily ‘because if you buy that ‘lovely’ phone with a 512MB RAM, I put it to you that once you open up to 3 applications with moderate sizes and they get to work, you start getting slow response from the device in no time.

If you’ve been wondering why that Alcatel One touch you own runs only a bit faster than tortoise, I believe now you know. With low ram even if your Smartphone runs on Android 6.0 marshmallow with 5.5″ screen, but then comes the spoiler with 256 0r 512 MB RAM, you’ll eventually hate it. It will limit your multitasking options unbearably, and you might be wondering how can 3 quite mid sized app just eat up a whole 512MB RAM, answer is: If the phone is said to come with that RAM size you’ll probably have only 256-340 at your disposal as the rest will be taking toll of by system apps, those apps that aren’t for your use but needed to keep the phone’s system running.

The least RAM size I’d advice you go for is 1GB, when system apps are done taking their share, you’d be having nothing less than about 700MB at your disposal and that’s pretty okay for multitasking though not GREAT.
The second thing one should not miss looking out for is the internal storage space. I’m not going to be writing much like I did on RAM on this.

Given that some games can easily take up more than 1GB — not to mention how many high-res photos and videos Smartphone owners are capturing — we highly recommend opting for as much internal storage as possible. The minimum on most handsets, like the iPhone 6, is 16GB, but more phones (such as the Galaxy S7) are coming standard with 32GB. We recommend 32GB or more.

A microSD card can help expand your storage. It's available on phones such as the Galaxy S7, the LG G5 and the HTC 10. You can pick up a 128GB microSD for as little as $40. Next is the battery life, in fact, this particular feature has become the talk of the day.

Many factors — including the screen size, processor and operating system — determine how long a Smartphone lasts on a charge. However, shoppers looking for the longest endurance possible should really consider the endurance, capacity and ratting. We consider any phone that lasts longer than 8 hours of straight 4G LTE surfing to be acceptable, but greater than 9 hours is better.

Just like iPhones have their iOS which they run on so has Android phones. Version upgrades keep coming, and the old one is never better than the new one, they do make sure of that. Below is the list of android versions that has come into existence since they started getting confectionery code names;\

·        Donut (1.6)
·        Eclair (2.0–2.1)
·        Froyo (2.2–2.2.3)
·        Gingerbread (2.3–2.3.7)
·        Honeycomb (3.0–3.2.6) [a]
·        Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0–4.0.4)
·        Jelly Bean (4.1–4.3.1)
·        KitKat (4.4–4.4.4, 4.4W–4.4W.2)
·        Lollipop (5.0–5.1.1)
·        Marshmallow (6.0)

The reason why I brought you the list is for you to take a very good look at the strata, if you go for Ice Cream Sandwich don’t expect to enjoy all those features you’ve seen that attracted you to the Android brand. The least Version I’d advice you to go for is KitKat, when a new version comes it comes with cool features and will be able to run the latest apps, most apps that will be built from then hence forth will be compatible only with the latest version and maybe the immediately preceding one or two and that’s it. So you sure won’t want to end up with a good looking phone running a medieval OS. I believe I’ve made things lucid on that.
However, the above point are not the only things that are important for one to look out for, if you’ve got the legal tender, considerably much of it, it will be better you go for that with at least 5.5inch screen size or 5 but not 4, its processor should at least be dual core with both clocking at 1.2GHz, might be 1GHz though. But more processors means battery drains faster. And a host of others, with these tips we hope you make the right choice on your next Smartphone. Also help others by sharing it!

Tecno (Chinese mobile phone company) explains why it only does business in Africa

China-based mobile phone manufacturer, Tecno Telecom Limited, exclusively does business in Africa. years back, the company released the first ‘made in Ethiopia’ smartphone. Tecno vice president, Arif Chowdhury was in Nairobi recently and told How we made it in Africa’s Dinfin Mulupi about the firm’s expansion strategy and its plans to move all of its manufacturing to Africa.

Tecno lunched it's camon c9 early this month
How and why did Tecno enter the African market?
The company started in 2006 in Hong Kong with our first research and development centre in Shanghai, China. For two years, our business focused on the South Asia market. After studying the markets in South East Asia, Africa and Latin America, we found out that Africa would be the most lucrative market for us. We began operations here in 2008 before eventually stopping our business in Asia to exclusively focus on Africa.
Today, Tecno does business in Africa only. We want to be the mobile king of Africa. The continent receives a lot of imports but the products are not always modelled to fit demand here. We ensure our products meet the local demand because they are solely produced for the African market. We are present in 12 countries in East, West and Central Africa where we currently control an average of 20% market share in each of the countries. This year we are going to explore the Southern and Northern Africa markets starting with South Africa and Egypt. We are also going to strengthen relations with technology giants both in manufacturing and service provision to ensure quality in products and customer experience. We have no option but to have the best products. You can’t be a failure in Africa and go somewhere else. We have to make it here.
The African mobile market is dominated by global giants.  How do you intend to become king
Even Tecno is a giant. We fight with them with more localisation and customisation of devices. We are very focused on each of the countries we do business in and their demands. With the right product and communication you can compete with them. The competition is good because it forces all players to bring better devices, better features and better prices. This is the 21st century, anybody and everybody has a chance to make it. Creativity and innovation are, however, important. It is also important to know that just because a firm is successful in Europe does not mean they are guaranteed success in every other market. The question is: what value are they adding to this particular market?
Explain some of the trends you are seeing in Africa’s mobile market
The smartphone is the mobile device to watch this year. The prices are coming down and the sales volumes will increase. This is driving mobile internet access, which then opens up a lot of doors for innovation in that space. Studies indicate that most people now access the internet through their mobile phones as opposed to PCs. We are launching more internet series mobile phones to serve the growing demand. Our research from years back shows that the buyers of Tecno phones are mostly the youth and we have decided to [focus] on this market of people aged 17 to 35. The young people want to be unique. They want unique features that allow them to play and chat.
Tecno released the first ‘made in Ethiopia’ smartphone last year. Are there any plans to roll out plants in other African countries?
We are proud to say that some of the Tecno phones are already ‘made in Africa’. We started a plant in Addis Ababa two year ago and it is doing well so far. We chose Ethiopiabecause it is unique, looking at it from a strategic point of view. We found Ethiopia’s duty structure to be more attractive. We eventually plan to move our entire production to Africa since this is the only market we serve. We will start with establishing manufacturing plants in Kenya and Nigeria. This will depend highly on a lot of factors like the customs structure and government support we receive.
Some African countries are now past 100% mobile penetration. Are you expecting the mobile devices market to start shrinking?
For the next five to 10 years, we expect Africa to remain the fastest growing market in the world. For the countries that are past 100% penetration, there is still a market for phone replacement. Most countries are, however, still behind in terms of penetration and we therefore expect new subscribers there. We are confident that the market is still huge, and it will be so for the next couple of years.
What challenges do you face?
This is the fastest moving industry. A day in the mobile industry is like a week or month in other industries. We have to constantly launch new products and improve quality and service. The competition here is fierce. The counterfeit phones are also a challenge.
Describe the experience you have had while doing business in Africa.
People who have not visited Africa have the wrong perception of the continent. The challenges are not as bad as the media makes it appear. If you are sincere with the people, they will support you. No other part in the world has as much resources as Africa.
